WINNER – GRAND PRIX DU JURY – FESTIVAL DE CANNES 2024
WINNER – BÄSTA FILM – ASIAN FILM AWARDS 2025
Romantic everyday drama with överworldly beautiful ögonblickbilder about nurses in Mumbai and their love relationships. The film portrays a close friendship between two women in a gentle and intimate way. How they come to terms with themselves and find a way to live on their own terms in the hectic city of Mumbai. A trip to a coastal village gives the two women breathing space and an opportunity to realise their dreams in life. People and environments are portrayed with sublime photography in a range of colours during the rainy season of the monsoon and shades of red during the dry season.
All We Imagine As Light has been critically acclaimed and screened at numerous festivals around the world. At Cannes, it won the Grand Prix du Jury, the festival's second prize after the Palme d'Or, and was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. The US National Society for Film Critics awarded All We Imagine As Light with the Best Foreign Language Film award.
Director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia previously made the equally award-winning and acclaimed documentary A Night of Knowing Nothing, about student life in her native India, which won the Golden Eye at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.
